8 Items I Always Shop for First at Grocery Outlet
I have partnered with Grocery Outlet to share my best money-saving tips on things you buy every week. All opinions are 100% my own. I wouldn't tell you about something I don't love. Promise!
You know how they say you should only shop the perimeter of the grocery store? That's not true if you are shopping at Grocery Outlet. I love a good bargain, so I make time to visit more than one grocery store weekly to shop loss-leaders and follow the deals. I first wrote about my love of Grocery Outlet more than five years ago when I did the series, Living Well on Less. Some of my tips and shopping habits have changed from that post {all of my kids living in my home are teenagers now!}, but the money-saving advice is the same. I still make frequent trips to my Grocery Outlet and usually shop there first before making a major shopping trip to my other local store. You just never know what you will find, but odds are you will find it at a deep discount. It's worth it for me to shop there first and I promise, if you have a store nearby, it's worth it for you too! I always go to Grocery Outlet to get my BargainBliss!
Shopping at Grocery Outlet
Do I need a special membership to shop at Grocery Outlet?
No! While the prices are a bargain, you don't need any special membership to join. Anyone can shop at Grocery Outlet.
How is Grocery Outlet So Cheap?
Grocery Outlet inventory comes from overstocks and closeouts of name-brand groceries. You can also find private label groceries, organic food items, and closeout or seasonal merchandise. Brand names change often, so make it your first stop because you never know what you are going to find!
8 Items I Always Shop for First at Grocery Outlet
1. Produce
Our family eats a lot of produce. Prices can add up, especially for organic produce and out-of-season items. My kids love star fruit, a hard-to-find favorite, but one of the first places I check is Grocery Outlet to see if it's in stock. I can usually find some in the winter.
While organic produce is normally twice the price at my other local grocery store, Grocery Outlet has the produce items at, or around the same price as non-organic produce items, making them an affordable option.
I also love the variety of bagged salads; they make a great quick lunch! I don't normally buy prepared or pre-cut produce at my other grocery store because it's too expensive, but the Grocery Outlet prices make them more affordable and I love how much time they save me.
2. Local Foods
I like supporting local food growers when we can, so I appreciate that I can find local foods at my Grocery Outlet. On a recent visit, I found local potatoes and wine from a local winery available on the shelves. I like that because it gives me a chance to try local products.
3. Snack Food
It's smack dab in the middle of lunch packing season at our house, but to be honest, it seems like we are always in the middle of lunch packing season. Even my husband brings lunch from home. The monotony of the same thing day after day is what makes bringing lunch less desirable for my kids, so I like to make sure they have a good variety of snack food items to choose from.
I love that I can get pre-packaged snacks at Grocery Outlet for a fraction of the price. I can find my family's favorite brands and pick up new favorites.
4. Home Goods
You really never know what you'll find, but on a recent trip, I found amazing boho printed rugs for under $10, potted plants at more than half the price of my local home store, and huge ceramic pots you'd find elsewhere for three times the price.
If I need to find a housewarming gift, Grocery Outlet is my first stop. I've been known to give their potted orchids {under $10} or a beautiful plant as a gift.
5. Wine and Spirits
I'll be honest, I'm not much of a drinker. I think wine and spirits can be too expensive so I save them for a special occasion. I can pick up a nice bottle of wine {local even-see #2} for a fraction of the price. The selection is huge and well organized. Like I said, I don't buy wine and spirits often, but when I do, I only buy them at Grocery Outlet.
6. Organic and Specialty Foods
I'll be honest, a store with a name like Grocery Outlet {Bargain Market} doesn't scream high-end organic or specialty foods, but I've been shopping it like that for more than ten years. People in my home have food allergies and sensitivities and when we went gluten-free about a decade ago {before every store had a gluten-free section}, Grocery Outlet was my go-to store.
You can find organic produce {see #1} and snack foods, meal planning items, and specialty food items too; you can find items that fit any diet or lifestyle and you'll be surprised at the prices, I guarantee it!
7. Refrigerated and Frozen Foods
You never know what you'll find in the refrigerated or frozen foods section at Grocery Outlet. I always check both because I'm always surprised by what I find!
I am a sucker for a good coffee and I will only buy cold brew at Grocery Outlet. It's so much cheaper for the same brands I know and love but at a huge discount. I also love good cheese. The selection at Grocery Outlet is amazing and I'm always sure to find something.
The frozen food section is my favorite. While we don't buy a lot of processed foods, if I am in a pinch to get dinner on the table quick, a frozen bagged meal has often saved the day. Grocery Outlet has the best prices and the best selection.
8. Bakery Items
I used to shop at my local day-old bread store once a month and stock up on bread. {Did you know bread freezes well?} My local store closed and I find the same deals at the Grocery Outlet. The bread is just as fresh as my local grocery store, but the deals are better.
Grocery Outlet is in the process of getting a new look. It's the same amazing deals but I think you will like what you see. If you have never been, stop in today. Make sure you check out those eight items I always shop for! Shopping Grocery Outlet is my secret to #BargainBliss! I think you are going to love it too! Head in today!
And if you share your own #bargainbliss image on Instagram you will be entered into their sweepstakes with drawings done weekly!
