This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Alberstons and Safeway. All opinions are 100% my own. I wouldn't share something with you that I didn't love. Promise.
Without fail my college-aged son returns to school and picks up a cold. My husband said the same thing happened every year to him. It seems like something that happens if you come to school from out of state. This is my very scientific guess at least, but that's the common thread between my husband and our son's experience. Well, that and genetics, but whatever. Let's not bore each other with details. For the better part of 18 years, I was the one distributing cold medicine and whipping up home remedies that my mom taught me that her mom taught her that her mom taught her. Really, the key is fluids. So many fluids. What better way to do that than with an immune-boosting smoothie bowl.
I can't send that 2500 miles in a care package, but I can send a college cold care package including the recipe for the smoothie bowl. If you have a kiddo who gets sick every fall once school starts, I've got something that may just help. And if it doesn't, at least it will taste good going down!
Immune-Boosting Smoothie Bowl
Not only is it convenient for me to shop at my local Safeway store, it's also affordable. I can find everything that I need from the exclusive O Organics® and Signature Care ™ product lines, available in the Seattle area exclusively at Safeway and Albertsons. You can find also them at the Alberstsons Companies family of stores including ACME Markets, Jewel-Osco, Vons, Pavilions, Randalls, Tom Thumb, Shaw's, Star Market, United Supermarkets, Market Street and Safeway/Carrs.
You will need:
Smoothie:
1/2 cup O Organics Vanilla Almondmilk
1 cup O Organics Frozen Wild Blueberries
1 Frozen Banana
1 Tbsp. Honey
Toppings:
O Organics Oats and Honey GranolaFresh Blueberries
Flax Seed
Pumpkin Seeds
In a blender, combine your smoothie ingredients and blend together. Make sure you use frozen blueberries because that will give you the thick smoothie consistency you are looking for. If it's too thick, add some more O Organics Almondmilk until it's the desired consistency. You do want a thick and creamy consistency.
I think the magic ingredient in this smoothie bowl is the O Organics Vanilla Almondmilk. It helps to give that sweet smooth taste plus it's great in my coffee too!
Once your smoothie is well blended, pour it into a bowl and add your toppings.
This time around, you may want to add fresh blueberries instead of frozen blueberries as well as nuts, seeds, granola and any other toppings that you love.
Blueberries are rich in antioxidants. They can give your immune system a serious boost and prevent infection. Bananas are a good source of vitamins and minerals that impact your immune response. Together they pack a powerful punch. I serve this immune-boosting smoothie bowl to my family all throughout cold and flu season.
While I was picking up the ingredients for the immune-boosting smoothie bowl I also picked up some items for a college cold care package. I can't mail a smoothie bowl in the mail, but I can send my son with everything mom would have on hand for him to feel better and take care of himself including a recipe card with the immune-boosting smoothie bowl recipe.
What kind of cold and flu remedy do you try? Why not give this immune-boosting smoothie bowl recipe a try and next time you need to reach for some cold and flu medicine, don't forget to give Signature Care a try.
All Signature Care products are sold exclusively at Safeway in the Seattle area and come with a 100% satisfaction guarantee or your money back promise. Plus, they are the same quality and relief that national name brands have but at a better value. Why not give them a try. You've got nothing to lose!
