I've heard the word uttered through the years but pretty much ignored it. Probiotics...why should I care? And what the heck are they anyway? I'm a healthy active woman doing the best to take care of myself and my family, why do I need one more thing? As a mom, I do my best to juggle all the balls...to keep the kids schedules organized, to make healthy dinners, to get to the gym, to balance my work and my family time. Sometimes the idea of one more thing throws everything off balance. But isn't balance really what we are ultimately seeking?
Several different life events this year have made me feel like I may need more balance. Not only have I faced physical hurdles, I have also been dealing with negative self-talk I've had to overcome. But I know that I'm strong and I can do hard things. I desire to live my best life and I can't do that with obstacles in my way, so I need to take charge. I need to hit reset and start fresh and that means that I may need to make some small changes for a better life. Instead of ignoring the word, let's dig in and see what the heck probiotics are why I should care about them.
What the Heck are Probiotics and Why Do I Need Them?
What are Probiotics?
Probiotics are living microorganisms that have been studied and shown to provide health benefits that go beyond basic nutrition and are believed to improve health. Your body is a natural home to microorganisms and when you ingest them on a regular basis, they can have a wide range of benefits for you. Naturally our bodies have a large amount of these microorganisms, but sometimes because of stress, poor diet or even hormonal changes the balance of microorganisms can be disrupted.
Why Should I Care about them?
Helping support your digestive health may have a positive impact on how you think and feel, which is why I'm going to try the Activia Probiotic Challenge. Activia may help reduce the frequency of minor digestive discomfort when consumed twice per day for two weeks as part of a healthy lifestyle {check} and balanced diet {check}. Minor digestive discomfort includes bloating, gas, rumbling and abdominal discomfort. You can find the Challenge Rules here.
I'm ready to make some small changes to help support my digestive health? Want to join me?
