What to Buy at Magnolia Market (And One I Won't Buy Again)

If you are a fan of the HGTV hit show Fixer Upper, you probably have a visit to Magnolia Market on your bucket list. I've been a few times and people always ask me what it's really like. I already shared with you if I think Magnolia Market is worth a special visit {you might be surprised at my answer}, but if I could only use three words, I would say that visiting is an experience. Magnolia Market is more than just The Silo's, and a visit to Waco is more than just a stop at a shop, that said, if you are thinking of dropping into the Market, I have a few "must buy" items {and I'm sharing one I won't buy again} at Magnolia Market. If you've been before, I would love to hear what you would add as well. I'm always looking for items to add to my list when I am in town.

Cupcakes

The bakery is a welcome addition to The Silo's property. The cupcakes really are worth the line and it's a sweet treat that doesn't cost a whole lot of money. 

The inside of the bakery is pretty sweet as well. There are plenty of photo op moments inside and the smells of freshly baked items are always free.

Jewelry

I'm a big fan of simple jewelry and there is no shortage of it at Magnolia Market. There are usually some pretty great sales in the jewelry department and I have found that usually the sales in the store are better than the sales on-line. I love that the store sources locally made jewelry from artisans from the area like Summer Ellis.

Signs

I love all of the signs that are available at Magnolia Market. I must confess, I have never bought one though because my suitcase space is limited.

But, if you are a fan of the show, you can purchase signs that were created and designed by Joanna for Fixer Upper. Like this "your mountain is waiting" sign created for the Whyte family in season 3 and made locally by Jimmy Don. There is a pretty cool story behind the sign. 

Mugs

These Magnolia Mugs are probably my favorite. Again, it's another purchase that is created by a local artisan at Black Oak Art. You can also find these custom mugs at other Waco, TX locations, like my favorite coffee shop Common Grounds.

Pillows and Throws

I'm pretty obsessed with the textiles that are offered at Magnolia Market. I'm not so in love with their price tag, but, the designs and patterns are pretty amazing and it's hard to find them anywhere else. I'm also a very visual person and I like to see something before I buy it. While these are all products you can purchase on-line, you can get a real feel for them in the market.

Hats and apparel 

If there is any section that is always busy in the store, it's the apparel section. People love to bring back souvenirs from their trip and what better souvenir to remind you of your time in Waco, TX than a shirt or hat. 

I do mention these items from the store, but I also want to mention that the classic "Waco" shirt {worn below} is a design from a local that is also available in Spice Village from Congress Clothing. I also have that Baylor Bears hat that Joanna wears often and it's my favorite. The hat is available at the Baylor Bookstore. But between you and me, I also got a pretty awesome trucker hat that is similar for $12 at the local Waco WalMart. 

The one item I won't buy again:

Candles

I was so disappointed in this splurge. And really, it is a splurge. The candle cost me about $30 {with tax}. I brought it home to burn and not only did it not last for very long {less than 10 hours of burn time}, it had this wooden wick that some people love but the noise grated on my last nerve and I hated it. I may be the only one who didn't have a good experience with the candle, but I wanted to warn you just in case. Buy a box of cupcakes instead. 

While I do love Magnolia Market, I am often disappointed that there aren't more one-of-a-kind items. Many of the items are something you can find cheaper at your local home boutique store or items that can be purchased on-line at Magnolia Market. Which is why you will see that the items that made my list are almost all locally made items.  That said, I will go back to my first three words and tell you, going to Magnolia Market is an experience, and if you have the opportunity, stop in. It's not about the shop or buying a souvenir to take home from Waco it's about the culture that surrounds you. There is something different there. I think if you go, you will feel it too.
