Paper Succulent Terrarium for the Black Thumb

I love plants I really do, they just don't really seem to love me. It's about this time of year that I start getting the itch to plant anything, inside and outside. We get these glimpses of spring with sunshine and rising temperatures and then BAM!, back to typical rainy Pacific Northwest weather. I have learned through the years that even though I want to be good at gardening and plant growing {I'm sure there is a word for this...}, I'm just not. Especially with indoor houseplants. I keep trying with the plants outside because heck, everything seems to grow here, but I have finally succumbed to the fact that I'm not really good at keeping plants alive inside and that's OK. So, I'm slowing making a shift to faux plants like this paper succulent I'm showing you how to make today. You can still bring in a little green inside but not have to worry about keeping it alive. It's really a win win and the whole project will cost you just a few bucks...less than a houseplant.

If you own a Silhouette {if you don't own one, you should buy one right this second!} and you aren't checking into the store at least once a week, you are missing out on some pretty great free downloads. Free is pretty much my favorite word, and I like to snatch up those free downloads whenever I can. This paper succulent was one of those freebies last year and I'm just now getting around to using it. In fact, I don't think I've ever made anything from the Silhouette store that was a 3D object ever and I have no idea why. This was a ton of fun to make and I'm excited to show you how!
There is just about no thinking involved period. You pretty much select the image in your library and all of the different layers come up. I just resized it to fit on my paper and in a few minutes, this was cut complete with fold lines. I used a textured cardstock in case you were wondering.

I simply followed the fold lines to give the paper dimension and set my pieces aside.

I used hot glue on each layer because hot glue is my favorite glue, that's why. But also because it dries fast and would work to hold irregular shapes in place better than regular glue that takes time to dry. The assembly took about two minutes. Again, my kind of project.

I had rocks left over from a project I worked on but you can find them at the dollar store, and the glass terrarium I used was a buck at a local thrift shop.

So for just a few dollars, I was able to create this cute little paper succulent terrarium that I have no way of killing!

I think it might even pass as being real don't you think?
