How to Detail Your Car at Home

This is a sponsored post written on behalf of HomeRight. All opinions are 100% my own.

One of the biggest investments that we make is our car. My last car {a mini van I lovingly called Thelma} was 12 years old when I was forced to replace her after a car accident totaled my car. We enter into some pretty long term relationships with our cars, and we want them to last, so we do our best to take care of them. Even if you don't plan on keeping your car until it sputters and dies, it's still nice to hop into a clean car where you don't stick to the seats. As a mom, I spend a lot of time driving kids around and running errands. My car is my second home. I like a clean house, and I like a clean car. I'm going to show you how you can detail your car at home and keep the inside of your car looking new for many years no matter how much use your car gets.

Last year, I shared with you lazy cleaning tricks for a spotless home. One of my favorite cleaning products is my HomeRight steam cleaner. No joke, my kids {11, 14} fight over who gets to mop the floors. So when HomeRight came out with an automotive steam cleaner line called AutoRight SteamMachine, I was one of the first to line up to get it. Not only do I love how easy it is to clean with steam, I love how natural it is to be able to clean chemical free.

The AutoRight SteamMachine is complete with everything you need to detail your car. It even has a handy lift top lid with storage area to keep your extra brushes close at hand.

My car was pretty dirty so I was really able to put it to the test!

I need to mention, that this boy was paid ZERO dollars for his help in detailing my car. He was so excited to get to use this steam "gun" that he happily joined me and kept asking for his turn.

**disclaimer, steam is hot. Make sure you go over proper safety measures before letting your children help you clean with the steamer**

Start with the hard surfaces in your car.

I have a lot of plastic in my car, from the plastic console to the cup holders to the dash. I used the jet nozzle and crevice tool so that I could get into all the nooks and crannies.

I tend to spill a lot of coffee down the side of my seat where the console is. It's a hard place to reach, until now!  This jet nozzle fits right in between there and sprays a nice burst of steam getting the grime off of all the surfaces.

We gave the squeegee a try on the windows and used it outside and in. I have free car washes for life with my new van {awesome!}, but I tend to neglect the insides of the windows. This tool makes it easy to reach even the angled front inside window that is sometimes hard to get to with the dash in the way.

I've had these two dots {again, I think it's coffee. don't judge} on this console for about three months. I had tried to wipe it out with no luck. Check out what worked!

The brush attachment did wonders at getting the stuck on grime that was a bit more stubborn. The AutoRight SteamMachine comes with three different brushes, all for different areas of your car.

We used the softer brush on the leather seats to clean off the kids spills.

Check out the before and after of the seats!

We used the black brush on the running boards. These guys get so scuffed up and dirty.

We finished off the detailing of the car by brushing the floor mats.

Once you get all of the insides steam cleaned, I suggest getting out your vacuum to pick up the rest of the dirt left behind.
If you have a pet, I've got my best tips for removing pet hair from your car carpet. Don't miss that one! I only just discovered this secret and wish I had known years ago!
I'm obsessed with this SteamMachine. Even though this machine is designed for your car, I know that I can use it to clean other places too. It's compact and portable and probably my new favorite appliance in the home.

Besides my coffee maker of course. Because duh.
