Six days of handmade ornaments. Scrabble tile ornaments on a vintage ruler

Welcome to day one of six days of handmade ornaments. I can have a boxes full of ornaments, and yet every year, I end up making a few more to hang on the tree.  This whole week, I will be sharing with you easy and inexpensive ways to create your own handmade ornaments this year.

The first one I'm excited to show you is my scrabble tile ornaments mounted on a vintage yardstick and hung with plaid ribbon.

With the exception of the plaid ribbon, I purchased all of the materials for this ornament at garage sales, but in case you want to recreate your own, I have provided links on where to buy the items that I used.

I never pass up a yard stick or a ruler at a garage sale and I've had this red one in my closet for the better part of a year.  If you want to buy a yard stick, you can find one here. I used a hacksaw and cut the yard stick every 4 1/2".  If the ends are sharp, take a little sand paper and sand them down a bit.

Like yard sticks, I also never pass up a Scrabble game at a garage sale either. I've never really used the tiles for anything, until now. You can purchase the Scrabble tiles here or check your local Goodwill. 

I used hot glue to adhere the tiles in words like Peace, Love, Joy, and Merry, though you could personalize your Scrabble ornaments with names if you would like. After the letters were adhered, I used a drop of glue on the back to adhere a six inch piece of ribbon in a loop to act as the hanger.

These were super easy to create. In fact, my daughter was home sick from school one afternoon and she actually made them.
