This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Duck® Brand for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.
I love it when kids use their brains to do something creative and make something out of nothing.
That's why when I saw that Duck Tape® has a contest called Stuck at Prom®, I was all over it!
My 14 year old son isn't quite ready for prom yet, but he does have a super important 9th grade dance coming up in a few months.
Getting creative with Duck Tape® isn't anything new for his generation.
I've seen his friends make Duck Tape® wallets, ties and flowers, but I would be super impressed if any of them attempted to make a dress or suit out of duck tape. How cool is that?!
I think that we will save the Duck Tape® tux making for a few years, but we did want to jazz up his suit for the upcoming 9th grade dance.
You can't always be all business and no fun now can you?!
The cool thing about Duck Tape® is that it comes in so many cool colors and patterns.
These are just a few that I had to work with.
Aidan and I decided to make a belt out of the Duck Tape® since we haven't yet seen someone with one of those yet.
These are the supplies that you will need:
Two coordinating colors of Duck Tape®
and two D rings found in the notions section at the craft store
Start by taking a four inch piece of tape and fold the tape into the center meeting in the middle.
Slip the folded piece into the D rings and fold in the center.
Cut off another piece of tape about 6 inches long.
Place the folded D rings in the center of the new tape and begin folding the tape into the center.
Your completed D ring should look like this:
Next, find a belt that fits you to use as a guide for how long to make your belt.
Cut tape into that length.
Place your completed D ring into the center end of the tape.
Fold over the raw edges
Next, take a coordinating color piece of Duck Tape® the same length as your first piece.
Line up your folded up length of belt with the D rings attached on top of the sticky part of Duck Tape® that you just cut and fold the edges over completing the belt.
Once your belt is done, you can also make a matching tie and pocket square to complete the outfit!
That's it! In 20 minutes or less you can jazz up any old suit and make it High School dance ready!
