Ornament garland

Last week, I was excited to guest post with Michelle at Our Wonderfilled Life! Just in case you missed it, I thought I would share my ornament garland with you here. 

I made this project a few years ago, but I wasn't able to use until this year.  We moved around this time last year, and my little project sat in a big green box waiting for the perfect spot to be used.  I'm hoping it's a project that will inspire you to scour the after Christmas sales and make one of your own. 

I made this gold, silver and red ornament garland for my brand new (to me) special white Christmas tree!

I started out finding oodles of glass ornaments at 90% off after Christmas at Target.  Each box or package cost me around 50 cents.  I used big and small ornaments in an assortment of colors.

I had enough foresight to have my husband take a picture of the process (remember this was two years ago!).  I had the help of all three of my kids.  One kid would be the runner and the other would stand on the chair elevated to make the ornament glide down the string like a zip line and the third would wait for their turn to get into the mix every five ornaments.

I used clear vinyl craft lace that I got in a huge 100 yard roll for half price at JoAnn's.

I had the help of my daughter and we strung the garland around the tree starting at the top.  It went on like a dream!

I love the simplicity of it don't you?

I tried this garland on our tree last year, but it just wasn't long enough to fit on our 9 foot tall tree.  Then I tried it on the banister, and it didn't work there either.  So in the box it went until this year, when we set up the white tree for the first time.  As Goldilocks would say, it was just right!

 I found this brand new in the box (from Target) 7 foot pre-lit white Christmas tree at a garage sale this summer for $5.  When I was growing up my uncle was a Christmas tree farmer, so we got free HUGE trees (12 feet tall) for our home that was built in 1860.  There were some years where we had three live Christmas trees in our house.  Because of that memory,  I've always wanted more than one tree for our home, so I was happy when I scored this one.

My 6 year old lego maniac son thought it was the perfect place to put his Lego train because alas, nothing is sacred in a home with children!

I love that it's the first thing that you see when you walk in the front door.
