I read a lot of magazines at the gym. Sometimes I just flip through them looking at pictures. A few weeks ago, I saw a Banana Republic ad for this sweater (o.k., not this sweater, the one in the ad was grey and white, but it was similar and I couldn't find the stock photo of the other one) and knew I had to make it.
I took two other shirts (again ones I had lying around ready to be repurposed) and set to work.
I cut 2 inch strips of fabric from each shirt and then cut them open at one seam making a long strip of fabric to work with. (can you believe I don't have a rotary cutter and mat? seriously! sounds like a good Christmas gift idea!) Then I ruffled each strip using the sewing machine tension technique (setting the tension on the highest setting, and the length of the stitch to the longest. Try it. It automatically ruffles the fabric with no pulling!).
I pinned each ruffle in place on the sweater and then sewed them down.
So, what do you think? (I think it looks like I was not born to be a model!)
